Your opinion counts

About a week ago, a woman (Cathy) at work approached me & said that she heard from our fellow co-worker Elaine, that I make beautiful baskets. First of all, thats a great compliment from Elaine :) But anyways, Cathy needs stuff to be donated to a... why is the word escaping me at the moment??? A benefit?? something like that anyways, and she needs some baskets for October. She will pay me for the materials & my time, and told me to make sure I put some kind of business card on there for advertising.

So I told her I would have one basket done now so she can have a preview. My dilemma on this one is, the basket cost more to make than I originally planned on... so I may split the cost with her on it - what do you think ?

This has made me soooo very excited I cant even describe! Last year I wanted to start making gift baskets & was going to preview them at the craft fair at work near Christimas. But I was new there & it was so busy, and I was just so over whelmed with work, I couldnt even think about doing anything. But now, I've come up with a business name & am very anxious to get started. This other girl at work has even said she would buy 4-5 nail product baskets for Christmas gifts!!!

Cathy also wanted me to make up some other baskets as well, I think she needs about 3.. so the others should be a little less pricey, but I have great ideas for them as well. Im not sure if I will do these other baskets on my own, of if I will stick to the nail products, but its something to think about. To cover all areas, here is the company name Im thinking of. It may change it, but for now here it is:

Pamper Yourself gift baskets by JJ

What do you think? I think it sounds kind of catchy with the JJ on there. So even if the baskets are just sold at craft fairs & Christmas, thats great! And maybe during the year if anyone needs a basket done for someone's bday, then wonderful! We'll see how it goes. If all goes well & there 's some demand, then I can get officially set up as a business to sell outside of craft fairs.

This is so exciting for me! Baskets are fun to make & its really a stress reliever. The fall basket I did tonight, think came out beautiful! The only thing, its quite small, but would be rather expensive to sell. It would sell for about $45, but it has professional product in it. Hand lotion/body wash/toe separators/bath sponge/top coat/polish and a small hand lotion. I got more of a summer scent (at least in my opinion) but the vanilla spice scent that would have been perfect, they dont make a body wash for & then the whole theme would have been thrown off. So we'll see how it goes. I hope Cathy likes this basket as much as I do. Got this awesome fall looking basket from AC Moore today.. fall colors with little fall leaves around the edge. Some fall leaves are also in the basket & then tied it with some fall ribbon & then put a fall ornament on it. When Jeff gets the pictures put on line, will share them with ya :)

First of all I'm so happy with you!. Second of all here's a link to a website called Vista Prints (www.vistaprint.com) I get my business cards there and they are VERY reasonable. I never pay more than $10.00 for 250 cards, that's also incl shipping and handling. Most times they send out promotions to get card free and you only have to pay for shipping an handling.

Second, I love the name, I think it's a great idea to have your name incorporated in your business name. I kinda wish I did too.

Did you already quote on a price to Cathy? Run it by her first, see how much she's willing to spend. If she doesn't think that's reasonable, than go to the max she is willing to spend. Even if you lose money it might not be as much to lose if you split the cost. Splitting the cost you might lose out on more. Does that make sense.

Keep a spreadsheet of all your products that you have bought going forward. That way you will have a better idea on how much to sell the stuff in the future, and you can make some money. The first few are the hardest to sell because you have no idea on what to sell stuff for. You learn as your business grows.

Also when you go to AC moore. Mention if they have a coupon this week. Most times they have a 40% coupon weekly ( i know cuz i use to work there) AC moore's policy is that they have to honor it if you mention it, without physically having it. It's off one item, but at least it will save you a little bit of money. Also with AC moore, keep an eye out with Moonlight Madness sales. Usually once a season, so I suspect the Fall one will be out soon. It's typically on a Sunday after the store closes at 6 and then you can get %25 off the entire store.

Once you get your business card, I can set you up on my site as a resource.

If you need any help..let me know. I'm so excited for you!

Very proud of you!! This is such a wonderful idea!

Love the name! Creative!

I agree with Lauren on the pricing issue.

Spreadsheet is a great idea too. You can keep track of what you are speading so much easier.

Don't know if you are a Wal-Mart person but sometimes in the craft section, they have nice baskets that are relatively inexpensive.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm so proud of you!!!!
