Soul Searching?

The other day at work we had a conversation about goals. Talk about working out, weight loss & what the over all goal was & how long was it going to take to achieve it. And that you know what you should/shouldnt eat - so why be on a diet? Its basically avoiding or limiting the foods you know you shouldnt be eating or large amounts.

I've never really been one for goal setting. Dont know why other than the fact Im probably not good at coming up with them & following through with it. But this conversation got me thinking.. ok my goal is to lose 20 lbs - but what time frame??? Uh - dunno I say. A good motivator is: dont buy any clothes until you've dropped a size... ok that will be hard, but I guess thats great motivation to exercise, eat well & do what I can. But still what is the time frame? Im not good at cutting back on LOTS of stuff.. then I feel too deprived.. but i know its cutting back on the fries, candy, soda & the likes. So hopefully just modifying what I eat & exercise will do some good.

One other good point was to not buy bigger clothes if yours get too tight. I already do this & have tried to get Jeff to do it too. If your pants are getting tight - live with it. I've already gone up pant sizes & then what happens? You get comfy in those pants & then before you know it, you're going up again. So quite a few years ago I decided if the pants get tight: Deal With It. Tight pants everyday is a great motivator to not reach for the soda or the extra serving of whatever. I may not have gone down a size, but its prevented me from buying anything bigger. Thank God!

But the soul searching thing, if thats what it should be called, Im not really sure - is goal setting all together. A few years ago I taught myself to make goals.. now its time to put a realistic time frame on them.. .but guess im just not sure how to go about that. But it seems really successful people, in business, weight loss, finishing school, starting their own business - are those that set goals & put realistic time frames for them.

Something to think about.

But since there is a gym at work, Erin, Franca & I are starting to go & do a little here & there. I was suppose to start with them last week but because of my breathing & feeling tired, didnt join them. Tuesday we went for about a 1/2 hour & Erin & I ran a little! I could even breath! Well the inhaler helped, but you just feel so much stronger after!

Baby steps & we'll be on our way. We just have to keep motivating each other to do well. Now there is quite a few more girls that are excited we are going now & another that wanted to join us as well. So now there's Erica, Jocelyn & Holly. Jocelyn emailed all of us the class schedule.. which we're not sure if we're really ready for that yet.. however Holly asked if I wanted to do the 15 minute ab workout next week - so I said "eh why not?" So hopefully after next Tuesday we wont be walking bent over in pain!

Goals are a good thing. I have my freshman homeroom write out every Monday thier goals for the week. On Friday, we discuss whether or not they met their goals and why or why not. They keep a reflection journal.

I also model the goal thing with them. I write out my personal goals for the week. Sometimes I share them with the kids. Some are too personal to share! :-)

Work at your own pace on your goals. One day at a time -

Don't beat yourself up if you don't accomplish what you wanted to accomplish. It's OK.

Setting goals are great but for me it sometimes hard too. The way I see it is if you really want it bad enough, you will make it work. It's all baby steps, it takes a while to accomplish any goal but at least you are working towards your goal. Good lUck miss janet I know you can do it!

when you look at your life over the past few years, think about all the goals you attained without even thinking about it. you wanted to get out of Nutcrakcker...done, you wanted to go back to school...done,& you learned a new job. I think when you set a "goal" and think about it too much you are leaving too much margin for failure. If you concentrate on working out 3 times a week, i think we can manage that, the weight loss will come in time. You are making a lot of positive changes in your life and it will take a while to reap the rewards but it will happen. :-)
